Welcome to my website

John P Margetts ARPS

Photography is for me a way of feeling, of touching

and loving the world that surrounds me.

What I capture in my camera is captured forever and those  photographs bring back the memory of the joys, sights, plus all thise little things,

long after I have forgotten all about them.

A little bit about me and my photography.

They say that doing what you like, when you like, is often called 'Freedom' however, enjoying what you do is, in my opinion, well on the road to 'Happiness'. That's a major reason why I enjoy my photography so much and why I have been engaged with some sort of photography in one form or another for most of my life.

At school I was one of the first to join the photography class, then on leaving school I went  to college to study photography. Having successfully passed all my examinations I then went on to become a full time professional photographer, eventually ending up running my own very successful photographic studio in west London.

Over the years, from the days of film and darkroom techniques through to the High-Tech modern Digital cameras of today I have tackled many genres of photography. These include; commercial, industrial, food, wedding, portraiture and glamour photography.

Throughout this long period my passion and enthusiasm for the magic of photography has never ever diminished however.I have always enjoyed taking photographs of people, both in the studio doing portraiture or out and about taking candid shots of people wherever they are.

In the more recent years I have been developing this and it has now become the type of photography that inspires and motivates me the most and one from which I gain the greatest amount of pleasure.

 About my RPS

When I first joined the The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) I made the decision to attempt and gain at least one of their distinctions.

The first of these is the Licentiateship which, after a lot of hard work, I achieved at my first attempt. Having gained this I am entitled to use the letterers LRPS after my name.

This success made me more determined to try and achieve their next level, the Associateship, to achieve this I knew they would require a much higher standard of work.

My panel of 15 images taken during the 150th year celebrations of the London Underground showing how a variety people use the 'Tube'. This was put forward to the RPS and fortunately it resulted in another successful submission which, in turn, gained me my Associateship (ARPS).

This panel is shown below.
